Pune, January 3, 2022: The historic places in the city of Pune are now becoming “places of celebration” for people. This has led to an increase in garbage at these places.
Along with plastic waste caused by tourists, there is an increase in the number of bottles of alcohol. In Shaniwarwada, the Pune Ploggers team recently ran a plogging campaign and collected over 450 bottles of alcohol and around 25 bags of plastic waste.
To welcome the new year, with activities respectful of the environment, the organization carried out a plogging campaign in Shaniwarwada. About 80 volunteers participated.
Speaking about the campaign, volunteer Bhushan More said, “Every weekend, the organization runs a plogging campaign to collect plastic waste from various locations in the city of Pune. But now we are doing these campaigns in various historical places. Over 400 bottles of alcohol and around 25 kilograms of plastic waste were collected in Shaniwarwada.
He added, “We also conducted a plogging campaign at Hanuman Tekdi and Sinhgad Fort. The volunteers also collected alcohol bottles and plastic waste in these places. “
A weeding campaign is underway on various hills in the city to prevent forest fires in the coming days, said Vivek Gaurav, founder of Pune Ploggers.
